Interact Club in The Community

LAKE MICHIGAN CATHOLIC – On Sunday, November 20th, 2016, the Interact Club of Lake Michigan Catholic and St. Joe participated in a leaf raking fundraiser.  At around 9AM, the club gathered at two different house around Berrien County Michigan, and began raking.

There were approximately 75 people total raking at both houses, but there definitely could have been more. These houses yards were a couple acres large, had grass to up to their knees, and infamous thick wet leaves..

There were hundreds of bags of leaves filled in 4 hours of hard labor in the 30 degree weather, and yes, of course, it began to snow.  The club members all believed they had frost bite and didn’t think they could finish the task, but they pushed through.

The club made over 2,000 dollars from both houses which will be greatly used in future activities, such as going to the Dominican Republic, for the club.

The president of the club, Addie Peters, was glad with the  results of the whole event and hopes to do it again next year.

“I am very proud of the club in all they had accomplished on Sunday morning. Nobody wants to get up early on a weekend to work, but the club did and the result was phenomenal. I know the work was hard and everyone wanted to go home, but it really did make a difference for not only the peoples whose houses we raked, but for the club itself.  I am proud to be the president of Interact Club and glad we get the experiences we do to help in our community.”

Interact Club is a great way to get students involved in their community, and fun because it is spent with friends.  Everything they do is to help people and make a change in their community, which is exactly what they did Sunday morning.
