Homemade Marshmallows

  • 4 tablespoons of gelatin
  • 1 cup water + 3/4 for the syrup
  • 4 cups sugar
  • Salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Food coloring of your choice
  • 1 cup confectioners sugar


  1. Dissolve 2 tablespoons gelatin with ½ cup of water mixing it with a hand mixer.
  2. In a saucepan, mix ¾ cup water, 2 cups of sugar and 1 pinch of salt, stir until it boils and cook for approximately 8 minutes.
  3. Turn off the heat and add the syrup to the gelatin, add 1 teaspoon of vanilla, the food coloring and mix with a hand mixer until the mixture cools and thickens.
  4. Arrange the mixture into a greased baking sheet covered with parchment paper and dusted with icing sugar.
  5. Refrigerate for 4 hours
