LAKE MICHIGAN CATHOLIC – During the month of October, people around the country celebrate and honor those who are diagnosed with breast cancer, labeling the month as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

To celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness, Key Club had hosted a full week, October 17th to the 20th, of activities, fundraisers, and dress ups days dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness.

Throughout the week, wristbands and pink frosted donuts were sold. All the proceeds were donated to the Marie Yager Center at Lakeland.

At the Marie Yeager Center, the people help make wigs, provide medical services, and other necessities for patients.

On Monday, October 17th, the students of LMC were given a chance to wear pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Not only did LMC celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness but Key Club had a day to honor Ovarian Cancer. That day was dedicated to Mrs. Glending, who was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Half of the money earned throughout the week will be given to Mrs. Glending for treatments and her trips to Chicago, where she will be treated with chemotherapy. To finish out the week, the LMC football players wore teal to honor ovarian cancer and Mrs. Glendenning and the cheerleaders wore pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Logan Myers, current member of Key Club, enjoyed the week and loved how the school came together to help a great cause.

“The fact that everyone was involved or affected by cancer in some sort of way is a great cause to help.”
Many students enjoyed the week and they hope to do more for the great cause. In addition, Key Club had raised over $500!
