Monday, October 10th, 2016, Shailene Woodley was arrested for trespassing during a protest against the North Dakota Access Pipeline.

The actress was arrested at the construction site while walking back to her car to leave. Woodley broadcasted the protest on social media, specifically Facebook, in which around 200 people involved.

Woodley caught the entire arrest on a live video her mother recorded and later posted it on Facebook. According to what Woodley said in the video, she had been peacefully protesting when an officer grabbed her arm as she was walking back to her van.

“They grabbed me by my jacket and said I wasn’t allowed to continue… They had giant guns, batons, and zip ties and they are not letting me go.”

Shailene Woodley, who is best known for her work in The Fault in Our Stars and the Divergent series, was then handcuffed and taken away. Twenty-six other people were also arrested and charged with trespassing charges but, Woodley was singled out at her car among of hundreds of people.

“It’s because I’m well known, it’s because I have 40,000 people watching me.”

The officer said she was arrested because she was identified. To some people this doesn’t seem fair because she had left the sight when she was asked to and remain peaceful throughout the protest.

Shailene Woodley will be put on trial for criminal trespassing sometime this fall. As for the legal battle on the pipeline, the Department of Justice and Department of the Army have requested to postpone construction momentarily.
