What to Do During Your Coronacation

Melanie Kibler

Due to the coronavirus we have been given an unexpected vacation, or coronaction, if you will.  (If you won’t… do it anyway). The problem that most people are having is deciding how they are going to combat boredom, when they aren’t doing schoolwork of course.  Never fear, I am here to help you figure out what to do with your life… or at least your social distancing.

I know this might not be what you want to hear, but this is actually the perfect time to get your house in order.  You are going to have a lot of free time, so look up a Marie Kondo video and get going.

Try A New Hobby

Do you have something that really interests you, but haven’t had time to explore it yet?  Well now is your chance! Just YouTube it up, and jump right in. But maybe, you have no idea what you would like to try.  So here are some of my suggestions:

First on the list is painting.  This is because it is a relatively inexpensive hobby that most people have the materials for.  Also, you can find many how tos on YouTube or you just go straight to the man, the myth, the legend himself, Bob Ross.  That way you can have the enjoyment of painting with an added soothing and uplifting voice.

Next on the list is embroidery.  Again this hobby is relatively cheap, especially since you can just grab an old shirt to practice on.  Also it is a very soothing, methodical hobby.

The final hobby that I will suggest is photography.  Let’s be honest in this day and age almost everyone has a camera, so why not get creative with it.  It is very simple to find YouTube videos on how to take artsy pictures.

Now I know that reading is not for everyone, but it is a good way to spend a couple of hours.  Also, you can get lost in a new world that isn’t full of a pandemic (unless you are reading a post-apocalyptic novel).  If you want some suggestions on what to read click here.

Hang With Your Family

I know, at least for me, that during school it is hard to find any time for your family with homework, sports, and other extracurriculars.  Well, now you have the perfect opportunity to spend some bonding time with them.

Maybe just chilling with them and talking about what is going on in your life.  Maybe you could even have a giant board game tournament. The choice is up to you, but make sure you get out of your room and communicate with them at least a bit.

This is something you should be doing everyday, to avoid becoming a slug.  It doesn’t have to be a lot, even just a walk outside would be good. But, just think this is the chance to get ready for summer and in case spring sports come back you want to be conditioned.

Make a Tik Tok

Now I’m sure about half of you are cringing right now, but let’s be honest sometimes it’s fun to just be silly in front of a camera.  Also, who knows maybe you will get famous and then you can brag to all your friends or hide it and never tell anyone. The choice is yours.

I hope this article at least gave you some ideas of what to do and if it didn’t maybe it took a couple of minutes of boredom away. Now it’s up to you! Go out and find something to do during this time of social distancing.
