LAKE MICHIGAN CATHOLIC- On Monday, May 13, The Lady Lakers took on Michigan Lutheran in a tight double header that ended in two victories for LMC. Both games were close  battles that ended with a score of 6-16 in the first game and 8-15 in the second.

The fist header began rough with the opposing team able to score three  runs in the first inning due to some small errors on behalf of the lakers. Fortunately, LMC was able to make two of those runs up.

Throughout the next three innings, it was neck and neck between ML and LMC. It wasn’t until the fourth inning when the Lakers started to pull ahead, gaining ten runs as opposed to Michigan Lutheran’s six .

In the bottom of fifth inning, the Lakers hit an incredible streak, scoring six more runs after holding their opponents. They ended up mercing  the other team that inning, ready to come play in the second header.

The Lakers came out of the gate hot for the second game holding ML and scoring thirteen  runs in the 2nd inning. Because of their big lead, the team made the decision to switch out some starters and try changing pitchers, switching starting pitcher, Jenna Cutter, for first basemen, Emily Lage.

Lage struck out two of the three outs in the next inning, but the team suffered from some more errors and were unable to mercy the team, but kept the win. Lage says she was proud of herself for pitching and hopes to continue to work towards getting better.

“I was very happy to pitch and felt good about my first inning. Unfortunately, I am very out of practice from not doing it for such a long time, but I am excited to keep working on it and get better for the future.”

Head coach, Joe Herzog, was very proud of the team and their victories, saying they have improved a great deal since the season started.

“Monday night’s games against Michigan Lutheran were a tremendous team effort. From the first day of practice the coaching staff has been preaching about thinking of what you are going to do if the ball comes to you and Monday it was highly evident that the entire team is finally starting to realize the importance of that preaching as they all put it into practice.”

It was a successful day for Laker softball that showed a great deal of improvement with a relatively new team.
