JV Boys Struggle Early In Hard Fought Loss to ML

LAKE MICHIGAN CATHOLIC- The LMC Boys JV basketball team took the floor for their second game on Friday, December 7, 2018 against the Michigan Lutheran Titans.  The Lakers played hard the whole night but just couldn’t overcome a terrible start in a 36-26 loss.

The starting lineup for the Lakers was freshman, Diego Nerio, sophomores, Tim Kessler, Chas LaSata, and Jon Jollay, and Junior, Brian Ha.

Right out of the gate, the struggle became real as the Lakers fell behind 10-0 after just the first quarter.  This score would become significant as the two teams were neck and neck the last three quarters and the Titans would go on to win by exactly 10 points.

The Lakers were led by freshman sensation, Diego Nerio who had 14 points on six 2-point baskets. Nerio was followed by Brian Ha who added 8 points on two made baskets.

Nerio was all about the team after the loss.

“It felt good that I was able to score but I was disappointed that we couldn’t finish or get back into the game.”

LMC turned the ball over 37 times and that led to a majority of the Titans’ 36 points.  The Lakers also shot a miserable 33% (8-24) from the free-throw line and missed many open shots all night long.

This may have been due to the fact that the Titans came out in a press defense, which made offense a tough ask for the young Lakers.

Nerio said the team planned for Lutheran JV’s pressure.

“We were expecting pressure but we just didn’t execute and it became hard to set up our offense and that started with me.”

The Lakers learned the hard way that while the start isn’t incredibly important, it does play a role in a game.  The loss drops the Lakers to 0-2 for the season and hopefully they can turn it around while the season is still young.
