Eaton Park- The Lake Michigan Catholic baseball season started this last Thursday and did not go as expected. The Lakers played Lawrence High School at Eaton park, the Lakers home field.
The two teams battled each other twice at Thursdays opener, playing two 5 inning games. These games were only five inning due to the 35 degree weather.
Their first game started off slow and never picked up speed. Lawrence’s starting pitcher, Dylan Matheny, was on fire and able to dominate the first game with a total of nine strikeouts.
The Lakers struggled to get hits and never brought one home. The Lakers’ starting pitcher for the first game was Matt DeFay, who did very well, but was unable to stop Lawrence from scoring one run in the first inning. This was all Lawrence needed to win the first game.
Although the Lakers lost the first game, they definitely did not give up there.
In the next game, senior Kyle Juza was the starting pitcher and by the end of the second game, Lawrence was able to finish with two runs.
Even though Lake Michigan Catholics’ defence was not quit as solid, their offence was phenomenal. The Lakers were able to easily bring in eight points allowing them to win the game.
The Lakers hope to do a little better in their next game against Beatty High School on Tuesday, March 27th.
