Lawrence– February 26th marked the beginning of the high school women’s district basketball tournament. The Lake Michigan Catholic Lakers kicked off their postseason run with an easy 57-7 win against Watervliet Grace Christian.

Wednesday, the 28th brought heartbreak for the Lakers. They would battle the River Valley Mustangs for a close semi final defeat. With a final score of 25-18 the Mustangs ended LMC’s 9-10 season.

Senior Katie Sullivan, attributed their loss to fluctuating, season-long shooting problems that unfortunately showed during Wednesday’s defeat.Sullivan and a senior captain, Anna LaSata say that they improved and had fun throughout the season.

“I wouldn’t change anything as nothing can replace the memories from this season and my whole basketball career,” said Lasata.

Looking ahead, freshman Sarah Jannings, says that next season will be difficult without the seniors. However, she is looking forward to it and learning to work together.

On the other side of the bracket, Michigan Lutheran would watch from the bench as its second string took an easy victory over the Covert Bulldogs.

Friday night would mean yet another easy victory for the Michigan Lutheran Titans. They would handily defeat River Valley with a score of 54-21. Their postseason run continued into the first round of regionals on March 6th, when they competed in a tough matchup against Athens.
