LAKE MICHIGAN CATHOLIC- On December 4, 2017 the boys varsity basketball team took the floor to open up their season against Eau Claire.  The boys were set to prove themselves this year and opened the season with a bang as the Lakers defeated the Beavers 71-32.

The Lakers were ahead from the start, getting out to an early 20-8 lead and never looking back, they opened up a 30-point lead by halftime.

Senior, Tommy Koenig paced the Lakers scoring 25 points; he scored from all over, making layups, free throws, and draining a few threes, including a buzzer beater at the end of the 1st half.

¨My teammates did a great job of getting me open, they also gave me great passes which made it easier for me.  Luckily, my shots were falling all night, so the work wasn’t wasted.¨

Although the team had a dominant performance, Koenig still thinks they have a lot to work on to get to the level they want to play at.

¨We need to work on defense and boxing out, we got away with those things because we weren’t playing a great team.  The offense has always been there and we have so many weapons, we just need to pick it up defensively and we’ll be fine.¨

The win moves the Lakers to 1-0 on the season and drops the Beavers to 0-1.  It seems that the team is focused this year and is ready to make a nice run.  The Lakers next game will be at New Buffalo High School against the Bison on December 7.
