UNITED STATES – The Mountain Between Us is an intense survival movie, based off a book written by Charles Martin.  It was directed by Hany Abu-Assad, academy award nominee for his directing.

The movie starts off with two strangers, Alex Martian (Kate Winslet) and Dr. Ben Bass (Idris Elba), needing to get home after their plans get canceled. They decide that it would be in both their best interests to book a charter plane.

Unfortunately the pilot has a stroke while they are flying over the mountains and the plane crashes.  Both main characters and the dog, that was on the plane, survive, but the pilot (Beau Bridges) dies.

While neither of them died in the crash, Alex’s leg was hurt quite badly.  Luckily Ben is a doctor and is able to wrap it correctly, but it doesn’t recover quickly.

After a few days of not being rescued Alex realizes that they have to leave the safety of the crashed plane and try to make it down the mountain.  Even though Ben is reluctant to leave, after Alex starts down he realises that he doesn’t want to be alone.

On their way down the mountain they face multiple life threatening experiences, but they also figure out they are in love with each other.

This was a very good movie, full of suspense, great acting, and just a little love.  It receives a 4.3 (out of 5) on the Kibby movie scale.

The main reason that it did not get a full five Kibby points is that the movie included the biggest survival movie cliche, the main characters falling in love.

Other than the cliche this was a great movie that everyone should go see.  There is one scene in this movie that is inappropriate for anyone under 13.

The actors were great and played their part to a tee; you could almost believe that they were really going through all of this.  Kate Winslet even did her own falling through the ice scene and didn’t have a stunt double do it for her.

This was a great survival movie that should be a must see on people’s list.
