Benton Harbor Track Meet

BENTON HARBOR – On May 5, the LMC varsity track team boarded the bus to their rotary meet at Benton Harbor’s track field.  With about 10 others schools there, the meet took about five hours.

To highlight a few of the athletes at this meet, Lizzie Stolte, senior, ran the 100 meter, 200 meter, and the 400 meter races. Emily Stringer, freshman, ran the 400 and 800 meter races.  Grant DeFrancesco, senior, threw discus, ran the 800 meter and the 4×4.  Cole Tubman ran the 110 meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles, and did the long jump.

Emily Stringer finished the meet with two medals and two new personal records.  She received a gold medal in the 400 meters with a new personal best of 61.25 seconds, and a silver medal in the 800 meters with a new personal best of 2 minutes and 34 seconds.

“I was really happy with my new personal records”

Aside from the running and field events at this meet, the 2017 Rotary Scholarship was also awarded to various athletes.  Andrew Armstrong, senior, was one of the 2017 Rotary Scholarship recipients, and the only winner from LMCHS.

“Twas truly an honor to win this scholarship because it was a more in-depth process than your standard ‘write me an essay and you better be good at writing’ scholarship.  There was an interview committee and a very hefty packet to fill out, so it felt like the scholarship committee was actually awarding you, because they got to meet and know the real you.”

With only five meets left, the athletes are training hard to make it to state.  Come support the track team as they compete on their last meets of the season.
